Freeconomics & Share Your Documents Online

2nd Feb 2009

FREECONOMICS

Giving away freebies is big business and makes money. In a crowded market place vying for customer attention is driving the growth and giveaway s and samples. It includes frequent flyer points to giving away mobile phones and making the money by selling the plans, installing free coffee machines in offices and then selling expensive coffee sachets.

Dan Ariely, an economist at MIT and author of the book Predictably Irrational, coined the term “zero price effect”, which is the phenomenon of offering freebies and gifts to encourage people to buy things they don’t really need.

The idea that something is free creates an emotional charge that creates a perception that the gift is more valuable than it really is. Given a choice between two products, one of which is free, people overreact to the free item as if zero pricing means it not only costs less , but has more value.

SHARE YOUR DOCUMENTS ONLINE

Scribd is a website that makes it easy to share documents online. You could think of Scribd as a big on line library where everyone can publish content, including you!

Part of the idea behind Scribd is that everyone has a lot of documents sitting around on their computers that only they can read. With Scribd we hope to unlock this information by putting it on the web. If you have promotional, material or newsletters you can store them at Scribd and send a link to your clients, customers, prospects or staff to view them. You can make your documents accessible publicly or privately.

For more information about Scribd and how to use it, check out www.scribd.com .
